ACTS 12:2–3
“He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also.”
Herod Agrippa I, grandson of Herod the Great, was appointed King of Judaea by Caligula in 41 AD. He executed James — the first apostle to be martyred — and imprisoned Peter. Acts records that he accepted divine honours from a crowd and was struck down, eaten by worms. This precise account is independently corroborated by the Jewish historian Josephus (Antiquities 19.8.2) — one of the strongest external attestations of a specific New Testament event.
